Reclaimed Lumber Find!
Driving to the shop I spotted a dumpster in front of a house in West Hollywood. They were tearing out the old studs and I asked the owner if I could take them. After crawling around in the dumpster for over an hour I collected a pretty good amount of old growth douglas fir 2X4's and 1 X 3's.
After some serious labor pulling out nails, screws, bolts, and roofing shingles, I had some awesome lumber ready for use. Not sure what it will be but I'm stoked to have rescued it from being trash.
The 1 X 3's were all clear grain, mostly vertically oriented, and the studs ranged from rift sawn and flat sawn with some knots.
Look at those growth rings!
